Today's #mentalhealthmonday post is about finding purpose. More than half of young adults today struggle with that, and I can relate.
One way I've found #purpose or meaning in my everyday life is to try to better the world around me as best I can. Depending on the day, the energy I have, or the space I'm willing to share, that can look different. Some days I'm helping a friend move or digging a neighbor out of their driveway or volunteering time with acts of service. Other days I only have the range to do things at home like maybe helping with my partner's usual chores or spoiling my dogs a little extra.
These things sound monotonous and meaningless, but on the days when I really feel hopeless and useless and not worth my oxygen, they're everything. It's honestly those little #memories of how it feels to help someone, connect with someone, or just bring them joy for a moment that give me enough fuel to push through to the next sunrise on some of my darkest nights.
By being there for someone I feel purpose. By helping ease their burden for a moment I have meaning. If I'm not here tomorrow, I can't do that again.
We get caught up looking at the bigger picture and the end goals of what we're supposed to be and if we're famous enough to matter. I think taking the time to appreciate the little victories and the small wonders that happen around us in our daily lives removes a lot of that societal pressure and allows us to enjoy being human.
